The Radical Dr. King

This year more than ever before, my MLK Day social media has been full of a new kind of Rev. Dr. King, not just the usual hopeful messages about dreaming and love driving back the darkness.

No, this year, whether it’s the inheritance of the new, loud, diverse, courageous, not-takin’-it-anymore faces of the new 115th Congress, or the proximity of this day to the Women’s March and the hatred of the so-called “Right to Life” march, or the mounting indictments of the Mueller investigation, or the crumbling economy, or the outrageously small-minded indignity of holding the health and housing and lives of 800,000 federal workers and their families and communities hostage….

Look, there are lots of reasons for the radical last years of Rev. Dr. King’s truth-telling ministry to appeal to the early 2019 Zeitgeist, and I’m loving it.

So, I wanted to share a few of my favorite quotes and memes from today.

He was for the eradication of poverty and caring for poor people. No human was an alien to him because he believed this is a World House. And he asserted that inequality in healthcare is most inhumane. #MLK POLICE DEPT'
